Holiday Scam Shield: 3 Quick Moves To Stay Safe
1) Don’t tap mystery links.
Texts that say “package undeliverable,” “account locked,” or “you won a prize” are almost always scams. Open the official app/website instead.
2) Silence unknown callers.
- iPhone: Settings → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers → On
- Android (most phones): Phone app → Settings → Caller ID & spam → Enable filters
3) Report & block texts in 5 seconds.
- iPhone: Long-press the text → Report Junk → Block Contact
- Android: Three dots on the message → Report spam → Block
Pro tip: Never pay with gift cards or Zelle to strangers. Real companies don’t ask for those.

In the ever-evolving world of mobile communications, choosing the right cell carrier is more important than ever. In the latest episode of "Plugged In with the Grandkids," Wesley and Cory delve into the key aspects you should consider when selecting a carrier for 2025. From coverage to customer service and the best iPhone 17 deals, this blog post will guide you through the essentials. When it comes to cell service, coverage is king. Cory emphasizes that the effectiveness of any carrier largely depends on your location. For example, while Verizon may dominate in urban areas, AT&T and T-Mobile might shine in specific regions, particularly rural areas. Cory shares a personal anecdote about his father getting stranded in the woods with a dead phone battery. The only lifeline was the Verizon signal from a companion's phone, underscoring the importance of reliable service. Wesley adds that potential users should ask around and check coverage maps before committing to a carrier. This due diligence can save you from future headaches. In addition to coverage, customer service plays a crucial role in selecting a carrier. T-Mobile often ranks high in customer satisfaction, but Cory points out that this is sometimes due to the frequency with which customers need to call for help. In their experience, Verizon stands out for its domestic customer service, often connecting users with representatives who truly understand their needs. Cory recounts his own interactions with customer service, noting that while T-Mobile can be quick, their representatives are sometimes less knowledgeable. In contrast, Verizon’s representatives tend to be more adept at resolving issues promptly. As technology advances, so do the promotions offered by cell carriers. Wesley and Cory discuss current deals on the iPhone 17 across Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. They emphasize the importance of understanding how trade-in credits work, particularly when upgrading your device. This knowledge ensures that you maximize your savings while getting the latest technology. Choosing a cell carrier in 2025 requires careful consideration of coverage, customer service, and available deals. Remember to assess your specific location and needs, ask for recommendations, and don’t hesitate to reach out to current users. Ultimately, the right carrier will not only keep you connected but also provide the support you need when things go awry.
